B SUMMERFIELD AND SONS, VINTAGE ENGINEERING.

Welcome to the home page of   B Summerfield and Sons.

The company was formed in 1971 by Barry Summerfield, and is dedicated to the restoration and servicing of pre war Rolls Royce and Bentley cars. It is part of the company philosophy that these wonderful old cars can and should be used on the roads today, and are not just kept as static museum pieces.

Another area in which we are involved is the preparation and development of our own and customers cars to compete in Vintage motoracing, primarily with the Vintage Sports Car Club in England.

The Car pictured above is the Avon Bentley, this is based upon a Standard Avon chassis into which has been fitted a Derby Bentley engine and drivetrain. The engine has subsequently been increased in size to 4.5 litres and also supercharged. This has made for a highly potent machine which has gained numerous race and hillclimb wins, and also is able to cover the 1/4 mile in just 13.77 seconds.

The image to the left is a 1936 4 1/4 Derby Bentley razor edge 4 door saloon with coachwork by Freestone & Webb. This car has been restored and maintained by us for various owners over the last 25 years.
Here it is being run on our in-house rolling road Dynamometer to check its fuel mixture settings.

The beautiful Roll Royce 4 door tourer pictured to the left is the 20hp model of 1926, this is fitted with coachwork by Windovers. This was found in a field in a terrible  condition having been outside and open to the elements since the war. The total restoration took us two years to complete, and the car is now used to visit rallies and shows throughout the year.

Although primarily involved with the restoration of Rolls Royce and Bentley cars we do also work on other Vintage cars, the picture to the left  is of a 1938 328 BMW roadster  which came to our workshops for a complete restoration.
