JET POWERED PENNY!

This is a project that I have been working on for a little time while my knees get better. The idea is for me to set the unofficial world jet powered Penny Farthing speed record.
The pulse jet engine that I have built first ran on 29th December 2001 and hopefully by new years eve I will have it powering the Penny!

More testing today but the jet is proving to be rather tricky in the tuning department, so I still haven't connected it up to the Penny.

  The Mk-2 jet.

Have had a good think and long detailed look at photos of actual running jets I have come up with a design for a new engine. I have made this one straight just simply for ease of manufacture.

The Mk-2 engine ran for a few seconds while running on propane with 3 of the inlet tracts blocked, you can just see the start of the exhaust pipe starting to glow. I then added an extra petrol injector and the engine seemed to be trying to run. It would fire with a very high pulse rate for probably half a second then stop, I think it was running out of fuel. I will add another injector tomorrow.

It Runs!!
The Mk-2 engine finally burst into proper life today which was splendid, I had to block one inlet off and cut two others right down, but it was then happy to run on the propane. I also modified the propane jets to give more of an even spread of the gas which may have also helped. It wouldn't run on the petrol but I think I need to play around with a proper fuel Pressure regulator. I haven't done any thrust tests yet that can wait for next weekend. The Photos are below.
